Shape, colour, proportion
Porcelain Veneers
Veneers are thin ceramic layers bonded to the front of teeth. They change shape, colour and proportion at once, which is why they are the workhorse of smile design.
When veneers are the right tool
Veneers make sense when several things need correcting together — worn edges, uneven lengths, stubborn internal staining that whitening cannot reach, and small gaps. If only colour bothers you, whitening is the better and far more conservative answer.
- Internal discolouration that does not respond to whitening
- Chipped or worn front-tooth edges
- Uneven lengths and asymmetry
- Small spaces between front teeth
- Teeth that are slightly out of shape or too narrow
The process
We photograph and measure, agree on a design, prepare a minimal amount of enamel, and fit temporaries while the ceramist works. At the fit appointment we check the design in your face before bonding anything permanently.
Longevity and honesty about trade-offs
Veneers require a small, permanent reduction of enamel, so they are a long-term commitment. Well-made veneers last many years with good hygiene, and patients who grind should expect to wear a nightguard to protect them.
Common questions
Do veneers stain?
Porcelain resists staining well. The surrounding natural teeth and the bonding margins are what need attention, so hygiene visits still matter.
How many veneers will I need?
It depends on how many teeth show when you smile. Some patients need two; others need six to ten for a balanced result.
