Professional Teeth Whitening

Whitening is the highest-impact, lowest-risk cosmetic treatment in dentistry — provided the teeth and gums are healthy first and the strength is matched to your sensitivity.

In-office and take-home options

In-office whitening produces a visible change in a single appointment under supervision. Custom take-home trays work more gradually at a strength you control, which suits sensitive teeth and makes future touch-ups easy.

Many patients combine both: one in-office session, then trays to maintain the result.

  • Shade recording before and after so the change is measurable
  • Gum protection during in-office treatment
  • Custom-fitted trays rather than one-size strips
  • Desensitising protocols for sensitive teeth

What whitening cannot do

Whitening lightens natural tooth structure. It does not change crowns, veneers or fillings, and it has limited effect on deep internal discolouration or tetracycline staining. In those cases bonding or veneers give a more predictable result.

Keeping the result

Coffee, tea, red wine and tobacco all return colour over time. Rinsing after staining drinks, a straw where practical, and occasional tray top-ups keep the shade stable.

Common questions

Does whitening damage enamel?

Professionally supervised whitening at appropriate concentrations does not damage enamel. Problems come from unsupervised overuse and poorly fitted products.

Why are my teeth sensitive afterwards?

Temporary sensitivity is common and usually settles within a day or two. We can lower the concentration or add desensitising gel.
